Hi I’m Juliet, the founder of Bosie Knitwear.

‘Bosie’ is a word, common in Northern Scotland, meaning 'hug' or 'cuddle' in our old Scots language, Doric. It has long been our favourite Doric word due to its phonetic quaintness, but we believe it describes our knitwear perfectly.

My immediate family has been in the North East of Scotland knitting industry since the late 1920’s, prior to that they were Fisher Folk, so I grew up around traditional Scottish textiles, Fishermen’s workwear and Fairisle heritage. From research trips with my Father to Shetland and the Fair Isle in the 1980’s via the St Clair ferry, to working with my hands in his textile workshop in my teens and early twenties, it has been an ever present and enjoyable focus in my life, made all the stronger by my blood bond to it. In 2001 I embarked upon a degree in Textiles at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen where I specialized in Knitting and Printmaking, graduating in 2005 with 1st class honours.

I started Bosie to provide my own particular range of knitwear designs, with extremely high standards, genuine pride in my product, sustainability and high attention to detail. Despite being rooted in Scottish heritage, my hope is to provide garments with a fresh and varied style, always committing to pure new wool, authentic provenance and the finest of quality.

Providing seam free knitwear so comfortable it's like a second skin, Bosie Knitwear prides itself on designing, and ethically producing luxury, Scottish 100% natural woollens. Providence and care in managing resources is of huge importance to us and our fortunate knitting location also accesses some of the softest water in Scotland, providing a much lauded softness during the process of wet-finishing, which is crucially formative during the first milling of the virgin yarn, and hard to replicate.  The spinning company we choose for our most prominent garments are based a few miles away and have been spinning for over a century.

We prioritise style, warmth and comfort, but above all an overall ethos of 'classic, high quality and long-lasting'. We are very aware to reflect trends in silhouette, colour and patterning, but above all we provide beautifully made, staple pieces that stand the test of time. We favour sensitive techniques to get the most out of this wondrous fibre with the least waste, which our mainly seam-free technology allows. We also choose spinners who have high standards regarding the ethical treatment of sheep.

For traditional, environmental and ethical reasons, you will find Bosie Knitwear is;

  • Always quality pure new wool.

  • Always 100% knitted locally, and with care, in Scotland.

  • Always committed to keeping alive our strong Scottish knitting heritage.
